There is a song we sang in Sunday school back then which goes like this:
Read your bible, pray everyday
Pray every day, pray everyday
Read your bible, pray everyday
If you want to grow
That is what I call ‘the simplified life’.
Life is not complex, we made it so complicated. We want the 500 Mysteries to living a fulfilled life, the 2000 secrets of a life that wins… we really think the secrets are in the complexity and the amount of things we have to learn, yet the real life is just in the simple things.
We have been wired as human to look for complicated things and look down on simple things. When things appear very simple, we doubt their efficacy.
Lots of people continue to look for miracles from one place to the other. Have you noticed the crowd on crusade grounds? Looks to me like the same crowd go to all the crusades and I wondered why they never got what they were looking for. They want the instant miracles, they want the Man of God to lay hands on them, and some would have even been healed if only they could connect in Faith, but they want the drama with it. If they don’t see the signs and wonders, they wouldn’t believe. They want to fall down under the anointing and manifest some dramatic movement; that is only when they can believe they have been healed.
II Corinthians 11:3, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ
Christ in all his fullness is not complex but simple.
Just look at the way the people missed Christ! They expected him as a king, he came to them as a baby.
They thought he would have been born in the palace, he chose to be born in a manger.
They thought he would be their king, he chose to be the carpenter’s son.
And they thought he would live forever here on earth, he chose to live forever through his death on the cross.
They missed him, because they were looking for the big complicated things, and missed him in the simple things.
I really pray we will get back to the basics…. The simple things of Christ….
We’ve left the Bible to read the books of men, yet Man can only live by every word that proceed out of the mouth of God… you can miss it with the books but you can’t miss it with the Bible.
No matter how many ingredient you are given to live a successful Christian life, there are only two that matters: read your bible, pray every day.
You read your bible to get the word from God and ‘pray’ to get the grace to obey it … that simple!
God has created life to be simple but we have sort out complications.
This is all that I have learned: God made us plain and simple, but we have made ourselves very complicated. Ecc 7:29 (GNT)
When we were little, we use to take life with simplicity then we grew up… what changed? Oh to see with the eyes of a little child.
No wonder Christ said we have to accept him like a child. We ask too many questions as an adult, we want to know why we should do what we should do, a young child just do it.
Jesus called a small child over to him and set the little fellow down among them, and said, “Unless you turn to God from your sins and become as little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Life is spelt in simple terms all around that even a little child can read and understand… only an adult seek to complicate it. It is written as precept upon precepts, line upon lines, and a little here, a little there’.
I don’t have many mysteries to give you for you to live a fulfilled life, just this simple but great wisdom from our old Sunday school rhyme:
Read your bible, pray everyday
Pray every day, pray everyday
Read your bible, pray everyday
If you want to grow
